Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL ) said on Monday that it would expand its self-service repair option for Mac computers, with users capable of buying tools from the tech giant starting tomorrow, August 23.
Cupertino, California-based Apple (AAPL) said the self-service repair kit would be available for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro notebooks with the M1 family of chips. It offers more than 12 different repair types for each model, including the display, top case with battery and trackpad, with more to come in the future.
The world's most valuable company added that the program would expand to additional countries, starting in Europe, as well as additional Mac models, later this year.
Apple (AAPL) did not say how much the tool kits would cost, but added that it would offer rental kits for $49. The rental kits will let customers have them for one week and will be shipped at no cost to the customer.
The tech giant said customers can visit Apple's support website to review the manual for the product they want to repair and then visit the self-service repair store and order the parts and tools they need.
Earlier this year, Apple (AAPL) unveiled the self-service repair option for iPhones amid a crackdown from lawmakers around the world.
Last week, investment firm KeyBanc Capital Markets said sell-through for Apple's (AAPL) iPhone "remains healthy," despite it being late in the cycle and with the iPhone 14 release coming in short order.
