Koenigsegg and Lightyear will share technologies in order to develop more efficient EVs.

Lightyear recently unveiled the 0, its first model, and the first electric vehicle powered by solar panels to be brought into production.

The small Dutch company is now working on the Lightyear 2, a model that will be more accessible to the general public since the 0 retails for over $250,000.

In order to increase the efficiency of this upcoming model, Lightyear turned to Koenigsegg, the Swedish hypercar manufacturer.

In addition to making impressive hypercars, this company is known for its numerous innovations, including the Rocket catalytic converter and a variable geometry turbocharger system.

Koenigsegg will do more than consultancy work, however, since this is described as a technology-sharing partnership that will benefit both companies.

This means that the improvements made on the Lightyear 2 could find their way to an eventual electric Koenigsegg model. Part of the modifications made to the solar vehicle could focus on aerodynamics since the Swedish company is an expert in this domain.

The hypercar maker will also invest in Lightyear in order to help it financially, but the amount hasn’t been disclosed.

For its part, Koenigsegg hasn’t clearly said what it would gain from the partnership, but the CEO hinted at new technologies, which probably include electric powertrains that could be developed with the help of Lightyear.

The result of the efficiency improvements made on the Lightyear 2 will be revealed once the car enters production, which is expected to happen in late 2024 or early 2025.
